Federal agencies have issued a proposed rule that would require heavy trucks and buses to be equipped with speed limiting devices.
The NHTSA and the FMCSA are requesting comments on the proposal until Nov. 7. The notice can be found by clicking here.
These agencies claim that setting speed limiting devises to a maximum speed will help save lives. These devises are also projected to save over $1 billion dollars annually in fuel costs.
The initial speed set for these devises is to be determined at a later date. Motor carriers operating commercial motor vehicles with a GVWR of 28,000 lbs or more are required to have these devises for the life of the vehicle.
